Squeaky Plush Monster Dog Ball

Something to squeeze, something to chase, something that squeaks back.

• Your dog gets a noise they made happen: a big squeaker sits in the middle, and it takes a proper bite to set it off.

That turns it into a job. Your dog bites down, the noise comes, and the noise is proof the bite worked. Then they do it again, which is the whole of what a good toy has to do.

The one you would pick is not the one they would

You are choosing a face. Your best friend is choosing a texture: long soft pile that teeth can actually get hold of, wrapped round something with give underneath.

That combination is why a plush ball beats a hard one for most dogs. It is soft enough to carry around all evening and solid enough to be worth chasing.

Half past four, and it is raining again
