What the water is actually for

Dry fur holds a charge. That is what sends loose hair off the brush and onto your sleeve, the rug and the back of your trousers.

A light mist takes that charge out of the coat. The hair goes soft, clings to the pins, and comes off your dog in one place instead of six.

You can see when it has worked

After a couple of passes the pins fill up. Press the slide on the top of the head and they retract, pushing everything up into one pale clump sitting on the surface.

You pick that up whole and drop it in the bin. No digging hair out from between the bristles with a fingernail.

Ten minutes on the kitchen floor

It is moulting season and your companion is leaving a trail down the hallway. Every dark jumper you own has a stripe down the back of it.

You fill the tank at the tap, sit down on the floor, and work over the back and the flanks. The hair comes off in handfuls and stays where you are sitting.

Questions

Will it get through a thick coat?

The pins are set wide apart and bent at the tip, so they travel down into a dense coat rather than skating over the top. Thick and wavy coats are where the mist does the most, because damp hair separates instead of matting together. Start on the back and sides, and leave the face until your dog is used to it.

What size dog is it for?

One size, made to sit in one hand. The head covers enough ground for a Golden Retriever and is still narrow enough to work around a Jack Russell. On a bigger dog you are simply making more passes.

How do I fill it and charge it?

Lift the cover on top of the head and pour water straight in. Plain tap water is enough, or add a leave-in coat spray if that is what you already use. Fill it over the sink and dry the handle before you charge it, because the USB port sits on the handle and is happier kept dry.

Is it quiet enough for a nervous dog?

There is no motor and no clipper noise, just a soft hiss while the spray is running. Switch it on at arm's length the first time and let your dog have a sniff of it before you start brushing. Most dogs settle within a session or two.

Is there any difference between the two colours?

None. Both are the same brush with the same tank, the same pins and the same release button. Pick the one you prefer.
