Warm Hooded Jacket for Small Dogs

A proper parka, cut for a very small dog.

• Warm from the collar to the cuffs: thick fleece lines the whole inside, hood included, under a cotton twill shell.
• It goes on like a coat, not a costume: two sleeves with ribbed cuffs and a row of snap buttons down the front, on in about fifteen seconds.
• Sized for the small end of the park: six sizes from a 32cm chest and a 20cm back, up to 62cm and 45cm.
• The hood stays up when it matters: a strap and buckle at the base of the neck holds it there, with soft trim around the opening.
• The details are the ones you would want on your own coat: flap pockets with metal rings, a stitched patch on the back, contrast ribbing at the hem.

Two layers, and that is the whole trick

The outside is a close-woven cotton twill, the same sort of cloth a workwear jacket is cut from. It is tight enough that a wind hits the surface rather than going straight through to the skin.

The inside is a deep pile fleece that holds warm air against your fur baby instead of letting it drift off. Neither layer is thick on its own. Together they do the work of something twice the bulk, which matters when the dog wearing it weighs four kilos.

The first properly cold week

The morning walk is suddenly dark, the pavement is cold underfoot, and your little one gets as far as the front step and looks back at you.

This is the coat for that stretch of the year: autumn, the first frosts, and mild winter days. In the deep cold your dog wants something padded, and this goes underneath it.
