Why water brings the stick back

A paper roller works by burying its glue in hair until there is no glue left. Then you peel the sheet off, and the roll underneath is smaller than it was.

This one is a band of soft silicone behind three slots in the case. Hair holds on because the surface grips it, not because it is coated in something that gets used up. Rinse the hair away and the surface underneath is the same as it was.
