Why long legs beat a round toy

A ball can be chased. It cannot be shaken. Shaking is the part most dogs enjoy most, and a ball gives them nothing to do it with.

This one is mostly neck and legs. When your dog whips their head round, the rope legs go with it, and that whole-body result is what turns a two-minute toy into an evening's work.

Is it right for a dog who likes to chew?

It is built bite resistant, and corduroy is a much tougher weave than the flat plush most soft toys use. The ribs take a chewing far better than a smooth face does.

Bite resistant, not indestructible. If your dog's real hobby is taking toys apart, this is one to play with together rather than leave out all day.

How big is it, and which dogs does it suit?

34cm tall and 18cm across the wings, at about 110 grams. Roughly the size of a loaf of bread, and light enough that a small dog can lift the whole thing.

That works for a Jack Russell, a Cocker Spaniel, a Border Collie or a Labrador. The narrow neck is the part that gets grabbed, so mouth size matters less here than it does with a ball.

Can I play tug with it?

That is what the legs are for. They are twisted cotton rope, knotted at the ends, which gives you something to hold that is not fabric.

Keep the pulling side to side rather than straight up, and let your dog win it now and then. That is what keeps them coming back with it.

What is it made of?

A ribbed corduroy shell over a soft filling, with plaited cotton rope for the legs and a whistle-type squeaker set in the body.

The pile is short and dense, so it does not shed the way a long-haired plush does when a dog gets to work on it.
