No more puddle. No more wet trail down the hall.

  • No puddle to step in: a disc floats on the water and lets a tongue through, so the rest of it stays in the bowl.
  • A knock does not empty it: the disc rides down with the water level, so a paw or a passing leg no longer sends half a litre across the floor.
  • The wet beard stops at the bowl: your dog laps through a small paw-shaped opening instead of pushing a whole muzzle under.
  • Fill it in the morning and leave it: it holds 1.5 litres, which is a full day for most dogs.

How a loose disc keeps water in a bowl

The insert is not fixed down. It sits on the surface of the water and floats, and the only way up is the small opening in the middle.

Tip the bowl and the disc tips with the water instead of letting it run. Drop the level and the disc drops too, so it is still sitting right on the surface at the end of the day.

What it looks like when it is working

Your dog drinks, lifts their head and walks off. There is nothing on the floor and nothing to wipe.

The tile around the bowl stays the same colour as the rest of the tile. That is the whole point of it, and you notice it most in the week you stop reaching for a cloth.

The messy drinkers are the ones having the best time

A dog back from a proper run drinks like they are being timed. Head down, half the bowl gone, water everywhere.

That is not something to train out of your companion. It is something a bowl should be able to handle, and an open dish never could.

Questions

Will my dog work out how to drink from it?

Almost always within the first drink. The paw-shaped opening sits in the middle of the disc where a dog naturally puts their tongue, and the water is visible right underneath it.

If your dog hesitates, fill it close to the top for the first few days so the water sits right at the opening.

Is it big enough for a large dog?

Yes. It measures 22.5cm by 18.5cm across the top, so a Labrador or a German Shepherd has plenty of room, and a Cocker Spaniel or a Frenchie uses the same opening without stretching.

A big dog leans into a bowl, so give it a spot where it cannot slide. See the last question.

How much water does it hold?

1.5 litres. The bowl stands 7.8cm tall, so it is low enough for a puppy to reach over and shallow enough to carry to the sink full.

What surface is best to stand it on?

Anything with a bit of grip. The base is hard plastic with no rubber ring, so on polished tile or laminate a keen drinker can push it along.

A feeding mat solves it, and so does a corner where two walls stop it moving.
