The light matters as much as the blade

The fur you are trying to reach grows down between the pads, in a gap about a centimetre deep. Your own hand is holding the paw open, which is exactly what blocks the light.

The LED sits behind the blade and shines straight into that gap. You can see the skin, so you know where the fur stops, and you stop guessing.

What a clipper feels like from a paw

That is what it is built around. The motor is designed for low noise and low vibration, and dogs who will not sit still for a mains clipper will usually sit for this one.

Switch it on across the room first and let your dog hear it before it goes anywhere near a foot.

What can I use it on?

The paws first, between the toes and across the pads, and then anywhere else that is small and awkward. Around the ears, under the eyes and a hygiene trim are all within reach of an 18mm head.

For taking length off a whole coat, a Poodle or a Cockapoo, use a full-size clipper. This is the tool you pick up afterwards for the parts that need to be neat.

How do I clean it?

Hold it under a running tap. The whole body is waterproof, so the clippings rinse straight out of the blade rather than working back into the head.

Shake it off and stand it up to dry. A small brush is in the box for anything that stays put.

How long does a charge last?

About ninety minutes of running time, which is months of paw trims for one dog. A small screen on the handle shows whether it is running, charging or full.

It charges from any USB socket and works while plugged in, so a flat battery never stops you halfway through a foot.

What comes in the box?
